Things weren't all bad though, because a group of bands broke through to the mainstream and brought national attention to the new generation of punk bands. AFI had been around since the early 90s, coming up through the Bay Area scene and playing 924 Gilman. They released records through the guy from Offspring's label that Tim Armstrong
